District volunteers support all local community scout programs
The Appalachian Trail District is part of the Atlanta Area Council which in turn is part of the Boy Scouts of America. We are located in Cherokee and Pickens counties in North Georgia. The AT District has over 60 scout units, 2,200 scouts, and 600 registered adult volunteers.
 
The AT District’s purpose is to work with the community to organize and support successful units. The district helps local scouting in four areas: Membership, finance, program, and unit service.
 
Membership strives for growth through the organization of new Scouting units and through new members and adult volunteers joining existing units and working to retain current members.

Finance sees that the district provides its share of funds to the total council operating budget.

Program concentrates on helping Scouting units with camp promotion; special activities including community service; training adult volunteers; and youth advancement and recognition.

Unit Service provides direct coaching and consultation by district volunteers for unit adults to help ensure the success of every Scouting unit.

The membership, finance, and program functions are carried out by members of the district committee.

The unit service function is carried out by the district commissioner staff.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America, and therefore our mission, is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Youth Protection
BSA ensures the safety of youth during meetings and on camping trips through training given to every volunteer and freely offered to anyone else who would like to learn more about working safely with other families. The program is called Youth Protection. Would you like to know more?
