Our District service project, Scouting for Food, is back this year and the community needs our help!

 Our goals are simple:
  1. Feed as many people as possible in our community – you choose the time, date, and beneficiary of your collection.  Please choose a beneficiary that makes the biggest impact in the area that your unit is meeting.  This can be MUST Ministries, your chartered organizations food pantry, a shelter, or even an elementary school food pantry.
  2. Fulfill our commitment to “do a good turn daily” and to “help other people at all times”.
  3. Be seen as a positive force in our community.

How can you get involved?
  • Generate interest in your unit! Determine which neighborhoods you will target and estimate how many bags and flyers you will need.
  • Contact our Scouting for Food Chair, David Bailey ([email protected]) to let him know that your unit is participating and which neighborhood(s) you will be covering.
  • Solicit bags in bulk from your local grocer
  • Print flyers (a template is provided here) to leave with bags when you drop them off.
  • Select your beneficiary - a short list can be found at https://www.foodpantries.org/co/ga-cherokee.
  • Contact your chosen beneficiary ahead of time to let them know when you expect to make a deposit.

On the day of your event:
  • Fill out a Unit Participation Roster with the name of all Scouts and Leaders that participated.
  • Count the number of items collected
  • Take a picture of your Scouts and the food that they collected that can be shared with local papers, District, and Council.
  • Report your results by emailing your roster, item count, and photos to [email protected]
  • Purchase optional Scouting For Food patches from the local Scout Shop.
